2017 "Cloud 9" Riesling

$26.00
$22.00Palate Pricing
Cool evenings here in Washington preserve the crisp acids essential to quality Riesling. Palouse sources this grape from forty year old vines in the White Bluffs Vineyard, which lies below the level of Missoula flooding with soils of loess—wind blown deposits of sand and silt—overlying gravel basalt bedrock. Riesling is an extremely popular wine in the Pacific Northwest because of how well it pairs with an array of fresh seafood, including Dungeness Crab and oysters. Well balanced with a crisp apple finish, this wine is light and ethereal on the tongue.

2017 "Dog Day" Chardonnay

Double Gold Medal
$32.00
$27.20Palate Pricing
As a particularly malleable variety, vintages tend to have remarkable diversity; some are dry and clean while some are full of tropical fruit. This particular vintage is lightly toasted, having held its initial fermentation in neutral French oak. The dynamic switch between oak barrels and stainless steel tanks ensures that the creamy texture and carmelized finish are balanced by a crisp acidity. As an homage to Scoobie & Skylar, the best winery dogs anyone could have asked for, a portion of all profits will benefit VIPP (Vashon Island Pet Protectors).

2015 "Dynamique" Cabernet Franc

$36.00
$30.00Palate Pricing
Palouse sources our Cabernet Franc from the dry and fertile ridge above the Yakima River just outside of Zillah. Rocky soils combined with the long, hot days of Washington summers give this vintage both a backbone of minerality and just enough acid on the front of the palate. Bright red cherry, cranberry, green herbs, and a hint of sagebrush in the top notes make this a year-round drinker, though it pairs particularly well with the lipid-rich foods of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

2015 "Red Satin" Cabernet Sauvignon

Gold Medal
$42.00
$35.70Palate Pricing
Cabernet Sauvignon's popularity is sometimes attributed to its ease of cultivation - the grapes have thick skins and the vines are hardy and naturally high yielding - and to its consistent structure across different regions. 2015 was a lingeringly hot summer that produced unusually dense flavors and long tannins. Aromatic and clean with a pared down black fruit profile, our Cab is easy to drink.

2014 "Temptress" Tempranillo

$43.00
$36.55Palate Pricing
Tempranillo is a Spanish black grape variety widely grown for the resulting full-bodied red wines. This is our only fruit from Elephant Mountain, where the rocky, south-facing slopes surrounding the vineyard create a significantly beneficial heat sink. Ripe plum, satin, and oak combine to give this Tempranillo intriguing architecture. Simultaneously fruit forward and built, a dry, medium toasted oak finish cleans off the palate. Pair with anything at all.

2014 "Poet" Blend

$48.00
$40.80Palate Pricing
When do we blend? We blend when the sum of two or more varieties adds up to much more than the individual pieces. We blend when one slope of the hill produces two stellar grapes that beg to be introduced. We blend when we get Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Two Blondes Vineyard, owned and operated by Chris Camarda of Andew Will Winery. Enjoy with roasted meats, rich sauces, or as enough sustenance in itself.

2014 "Sideways" Pinot Noir

$50.00
$42.50Palate Pricing
Originating from Burgundy but made prominent in the American market in the early 2000s by Paul Giamatti's movie "Sideways", Pinot Noir has risen dramatically in profile, availability, and price. While it is grown all along the West Coast, Oregon has consistently produced intense and fruit-forward Pinots despite the grape's sensitivity and incredible susceptibility to disease. Pinot Noir is not a wine often found on the Washington market, but certain AVAs have the warm days, cool nights, and chalky soils that the variety requires, and Portteus Vineyards is in one of them. Years of fluttering our lashes at Paul finally paid off in 2012, and we've been working with the grape since. The result is a thoughtful, lively vintage with medium tannins and a smooth finish. The oak expression - 30% new French oak from Medoc - manifests more as smoke than vanilla or caramel. Pair with soy glazed shiitake mushrooms and a fatty tuna steak or creamy butternut squash pasta.

2015 "The Saint" Sangiovese

Bronze Medal
$58.00
$49.30Palate Pricing
Italian variety Sangiovese is a rising star of the decade here in Washington. The grape adjusts well to most environs, but resulting wines vary wildly between fruit-forward and rustic in character. "The Saint" has a cherry nose with well-balanced tannins and acids, back-lit by medium-bodied mouth feel and a faintly earthy mid-palate. Be sure to work with fatty lipids like butter and olive oil that cut through tannins.

2014 Portage

$70.00
$59.50Palate Pricing
This fantastic vintage of port-style wine was made with Petite Sirah grapes, fortified by a brandy distilled from our "Black Pearl" Petite Sirah, and aged in oak for two years. A true representation of how glorious such a ridiculous product can be if enough care and love is poured in, this "Portage" has notes of blackberry, espresso, and semi-sweet chocolate finished by a caressing mouthfeel. Perfect for an after-dinner sip and dessert.
